Product Information
- Monochlorotriethoxysilane
- Silane, chlorotriethoxy-
Chlorotriethoxysilane is a reactive functional group that is used in control experiments to measure the reactivity of solids. It reacts with ethyl diazoacetate to form the corresponding chloroethyl ester, which is then hydrolyzed by hydrogen chloride to release ethyl alcohol. Chlorotriethoxysilane also forms an organic acid when reacted with an inorganic acid, such as sulfuric acid. The structure of this compound contains multi-walled carbon atoms and ether linkages between the silicon and oxygen atoms. Due to these reactive properties, chlorotriethoxysilane has been used as a solid catalyst for organic reactions and is often used as a polymer film on metal surfaces.
