Product Information
(2-Phenylethyl)phosphonic Acid (PEPA) is a carboxylic acid with the chemical formula CH3C(O)OCH2CH2OPO(OH). The compound is used as a synthetic substrate for magnetic materials and inorganic polymers. PEPA has been shown to have ferrite properties, which are enhanced by the presence of oxygen atoms in the molecule. It also has a protrusion on its surface that can be used for attaching other molecules. PEPA has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, but it is not yet clear how this occurs. Some studies suggest that radiation may activate the compound's antibacterial properties, whereas others indicate that PEPA may inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA or protein synthesis.
