Product Information
Benzofuran-3-ylmethanol (BFM) is a compound that can act as an estrogen receptor modulator. This chemical is a chrysanthenic compound and its structure is similar to the aziridine ring, with a hydroxyl group at the 3-position. BFM has been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation by binding to estrogen receptors, where it has been found to be selective for human estrogen receptor α over other estrogen receptors. The acidic nature of BFM enables nucleophilic attack on DNA in cells, which may lead to gyrase inhibition and subsequent apoptosis. BFM also has cardiovascular effects, such as vasodilation and lowering blood pressure. These properties are due to the ability of BFM to inhibit angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which leads to increased levels of bradykinin and nitric oxide production.
