Description:

5-Isopropyl-m-xylene is a peroxide that is soluble in organic solvents. It reacts with acids to form hydrogen peroxide, which is the reactive intermediate. The reaction rate of 5-isopropyl-m-xylene is increased by acid catalysis and it has been found to be soluble in only dihydric alkyl compounds. The oxidation of 5-isopropyl-m-xylene is catalyzed by alkylbenzenes and it does not react with acetone. Reaction conditions for this compound are homogeneous and it oxidizes phenols to produce benzoquinones.
