Product Information
Homopteroic acid is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X. Homopteroic acid is also an anticoagulant agent that inhibits the synthesis of thrombin. The sulfate fractionation procedure has shown that homopteroic acid has a high content of sulfates and is therefore an excellent candidate for use in cancer treatment. It may be possible to use homopteroic acid as an anticancer drug because it inhibits the activity of enzymes involved with tumor growth and angiogenesis. Homopteroic acid is also used in vitro to study enzyme reactions such as those involving protein phosphatases and protein kinases. It can be used to determine basic structure requirements for enzymatic reactions by studying their inhibition activity at different concentrations. Homopteroic acid may also have therapeutic benefits for cardiovascular disease because it prevents infarction in rodents by inhibiting coagulation factors.
