2-Chloroallyl phenyl sulfide is a hydroxide, or an organic compound with the formula ClCH=CClOS. It is a colorless to yellowish liquid that is soluble in water and alcohol. 2-Chloroallyl phenyl sulfide is used as a reagent in organic chemistry for the conversion of hydroxy groups into their disulfides, which are useful as reducing agents. 2-Chloroallyl phenyl sulfide can be prepared by reacting chloral with benzene and sodium hydroxide. It has been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
