3-(Naphthalen-1-yl)prop-2-ynoic acid is an alkynyl compound that is synthesized from the reaction of 3-(naphthalen-1-yl)propanoic acid and ethylene glycol. The yield of this compound is about 60%. It has been shown to exhibit different reactivity in aerobic and anaerobic conditions, with the former exhibiting a greater rate of chemical reactions. This product has been used in graphene oxide synthesis to create electron microscopy catalysts. These catalysts have also been shown to be reusable and have a high catalytic activity.
