N-Methylpyridine-3-sulfonamide (NMP) is a drug that is used in the treatment of hepatitis C. It inhibits the activity of viral RNA polymerase and has been shown to be effective against many different types of viruses, such as HIV, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis D virus. NMP also has a strong affinity for salicylic acid and can be used to remove this compound from plasma samples. The use of NMP in experiments with human serum or plasma samples showed that it has low toxicity. NMP binds to proteins with high affinity in the presence of acetonitrile and dissolved sildenafil. Reconstituted human liver microsomes were used to determine its mechanism of action on the metabolism of drugs such as acetaminophen and erythromycin.
