N,N'-Di-iso-butylthiourea is a benzyl thiourea compound that is used in the synthesis of dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is an acidic compound that can be prepared by reacting hydrogen sulfide with benzyl chloride. N,N'-Di-iso-butylthiourea reacts with osmium tetroxide to form a complex at room temperature, which decomposes to form hydrogen peroxide and ruthenium dioxide. The reaction of N,N'-Di-iso-butylthiourea with copper chromite under high pressures and temperatures yields copper chromite hydrate. This process has been shown to work best when the thiourea molecule is hydrated. N,N'-Di-iso-butylthiourea also acts as an acceptor for rhodium ions in the presence of peroxide.
