4,4'-(Propane-2,2-diyl)bis(2-bromophenol) is a polybasic chemical that functions as a cross-linking agent. It is used in wastewater treatment to remove organic matter and heavy metals from industrial wastewater. 4,4'-(Propane-2,2-diyl)bis(2-bromophenol) can also be used as an additive for polylactic acid plastics and polyvinyl chloride resins. The compound has a hydroxyl group on the second phenolic ring that reacts with an electron beam to form radicals which are then ionized by chemical ionization. These ions are then accelerated and fragmented by collisions with electrons in the gas phase, resulting in a spectrum of molecular ions. This process is called particle or electron activation analysis (PAVA).
