Eupalitin is a natural compound that has shown significant cytotoxicity against tumour cells in tissue culture. Eupalitin inhibits acetylcholinesterase, leading to increased acetylcholine levels. This causes an increase in the amount of neurotransmitter released by nerve endings and increases the activity of other enzymes that can lead to cell death. It also inhibits the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA synthesis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of thymidine diphosphate (TDP). Eupalitin has been found to have antibacterial properties due it ability to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro. It also has flavonol glycosides that have antioxidant properties, which may provide some protection against free radicals. The molecule is linear with a linear calibration curve, which means it can be used as a standard for quantification of unknowns.
