Description:
13-Oxo-9E,11E-octadecadienoic acid is a fatty acid that is used in the diagnosis of bowel disease. It binds to blood group antigens on the surface of erythrocytes, causing agglutination. This reaction can be used as a diagnostic tool for liver steatosis and other metabolic diseases. 13-Oxo-9E,11E-octadecadienoic acid also has an effect on energy metabolism and can be used to study the effects of ph on growth rates. The compound has been shown to stimulate hematopoietic cells in culture and is toxic to coriolus in vitro. 13-Oxo-9E,11E-octadecadienoic acid shows activity against various bacteria including Bacillus subtilis.
