Lucidin 3-primeveroside is a hydrochloric acid salt of lucidin. It is used for the treatment of hepatitis and other liver diseases. Lucidin 3-primeveroside is found in the root powder of Rubia cordifolia and has been shown to be carcinogenic in rats, but not mice. The mechanism by which luciden 3-primeveroside exerts its cytotoxic effect is unknown, but it is believed that the drug binds to tubule cells and inhibits protein synthesis. This may be due to an adsorption mechanism or hydrogen bonding interactions between luciden 3-primeveroside and tubule cells.
