Methyl chlorogenate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of organometallic compounds. It has been shown to have a protective effect on rat liver microsomes, which may be due to its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation. Methyl chlorogenate also has anti-inflammatory properties, as it inhibits the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase. Methyl chlorogenate has been shown to improve blood circulation in the retina, and can be used for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in people with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). CNV is characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth in the eye and causes vision loss. Methyl chlorogenate has also been shown to protect against cell lysis in vitro and to increase bioavailability in vivo.
