The compound has also been reported to have an interaction with the heterocyclic ring of an adjacent molecule. 1,3-Bis(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)benzene has been shown to bind strongly to metal halides and can be used as a ligand for coordination complexes. It is also used in microscopy studies due to its strong fluorescence emission.
