Product Information

Name:
Di(o-tolyl)phosphine
Synonyms:
  • Phosphine, di-o-tolyl-
  • Bis(2-methylphenyl)phosphine
  • Bis(2-tolyl)phosphine
  • Di-o-tolylphosphine
Description:

Di(o-tolyl)phosphine is a synthetic ligand that is used in the catalytic enantioselective synthesis of chiral amines. This compound has acceptor properties, which allow it to act as an electron donor to facilitate electron transfer in cyclic and ring-opening reactions. Di(o-tolyl)phosphine can also be used as a ligand for transition metal complexes. It has been shown to be effective in biomolecular applications such as the synthesis of salicylaldehyde derivatives from amines. The ligands are usually prepared by reacting o-tolylmagnesium bromide with phosphine gas. The quantum efficiency of this reaction is high, which means that the yield of desired product is high (e.g., >90%).
