9-(2-Hydroxyethyl)anthracene is a hydroxylated aromatic compound that is used to enhance the reaction rate in organic synthesis. It reacts with metal ions such as copper, zinc, and iron to form chelate complexes. 9-(2-Hydroxyethyl)anthracene can also be used in reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP HPLC) for the separation of organic compounds. This compound has been shown to be effective against cancer cells by inhibiting their growth and inducing apoptosis. 9-(2-Hydroxyethyl)anthracene can also be used as a fluorescent probe for lactide or as an amine acceptor in fluxional cycloadditions.
