Product Information
4-(Bromomethyl)pyrimidine (4-BMPU) is an intermediate in the synthesis of Sildenafil, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. 4-BMPU is synthesized by the condensation of benzamidine and uracil in the presence of base. This reaction yields 4-(bromomethyl)pyrimidine, which undergoes intramolecular cyclization to form an aldimine. The aldimine then reacts with an aldehyde to form polyfunctional compounds called aldimines. Aldimines are organic compounds that have two or more reactive functional groups on adjacent carbon atoms.
