Cloprostenol is a synthetic prostaglandin that is used to induce ovulation in female mammals. Cloprostenol can be used as an injectable solution or as an implant, and has been shown to increase follicular growth in cattle. Cloprostenol increases the levels of estradiol benzoate and progesterone in blood samples, which leads to the release of eggs from the ovary. It also has significant interactions with other drugs such as estradiol benzoate, which alters the pharmacology of cloprostenol sodium (a prodrug). The glucuronide conjugate of cloprostenol is excreted through urine. Histological analysis of uterine tissue has shown that cloprostenol may have effects on ovarian activity and uterine lining thickness.
