(2S,3R)-3-Benzamido-2-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid is an anti-cancer agent that has been shown to be effective against a range of cancer cells. This drug inhibits the production of DNA and RNA, which leads to cancer cell death. It also inhibits the activity of β-lactamase enzymes, which are responsible for destroying penicillin antibiotics. (2S,3R)-3-Benzamido-2-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid hydrolyzes in vivo to yield 3-(benzoylamino)alanine and benzoic acid. It also exhibits diastereoisomerism, with two different orientations of the phenyl group on the benzene ring.
