- Diethyl [(Phenylamino)Methylidene]Propanedioate
Diethyl 2-((phenylamino)methylene)malonate is a phenylalanine derivative that is used as an anticoccidial drug. It inhibits the growth of coccidia in the intestine and has been shown to be effective against Eimeria acervulina, E. maxima, and E. tenella. Diethyl 2-((phenylamino)methylene)malonate has also shown to be effective against carcinoma cells in vitro at concentrations of 10 μM. This compound binds to epidermal growth factor (EGF), which is a protein that stimulates cellular proliferation and differentiation in various tissues, including skin and intestinal cells. Diethyl 2-((phenylamino)methylene)malonate's anticoccidial activity may be due to its ability to modulate the expression of genes that regulate cell division, such as EGFR.
