2-Iodo-N,N-dimethylbenzamide (2IDMB) is a cross-coupling reaction substrate that is used in model studies of transporters. 2IDMB reacts with serotonin to form the product 2-iodo-N,N-dimethylserotonin (2IDS), which has been shown to inhibit serotonin uptake into cells. The affinity of this molecule for the serotonin transporter has been shown to be comparable to that of the natural substrate, 5HT. This result demonstrates that 2IDMB can be used as a probe of the behavior and function of serotonin transporters.
