Product Information
Ethyl 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate is a natural product that can be found in the plant Hypericum perforatum. It has been shown to possess antibacterial and antifungal properties. Ethyl 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate has also been shown to inhibit the activity of phosphatase enzymes and may have use as an anti-inflammatory agent. This compound is synthesized from 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid by the enzyme hypericin synthase. The enzyme catalyzes the condensation of two molecules of 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid to form ethyl 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate. The reaction requires NADPH as a cofactor and produces one molecule of NADP+ in the process.
