Product Information
- 5-Hexenoic Acid, Ethyl Ester
- Hex-5-enoic acid, ethyl ester
- Ethyl hex-5-enoate
Ethyl 5-hexenoate is a solvent that is used in the production of dyes, perfumes, and herbicides. It dehydrates by removing water from molecules and boron trifluoride etherate reacts with ethyl 5-hexenoate to produce isobutene. Radiation can also be used to remove water from molecules. Phytoalexins are substances that plants produce in response to infection or injury, which can help protect them against pathogens and insects. Ethyl 5-hexenoate has been shown to induce chloride ion release, which is one of the plant's natural defenses against bacteria and fungi. The acid catalyst was added to the reaction mixture and hydrochloric acid was then added as a catalyst for the esterification reaction with maleic anhydride. The fatty acid esters produced were then subjected to uv irradiation in order to synthesize different types of phytoalexins.
