Dimethyl piperidine-3,5-dicarboxylate is a lipase inhibitor that can be used in the treatment of obesity. Dimethyl piperidine-3,5-dicarboxylate inhibits the activity of lipases by blocking the active site with its covalent bond. This inhibition prevents the hydrolysis of triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol, which are then absorbed by adipocytes. Dimethyl piperidine-3,5-dicarboxylate is also an esterase inhibitor that prevents enzymatic hydrolysis of methyl esters to form fatty acids and alcohols.
