(1R,4R,5R,6R,9R,10S,13S)-5,9-Dimethyl-6-[(E)-2-methylbut-2-enoyl]oxy-14-methylidenetetracyclo[11.2.1.01,10.04,9]hexadecane-5-carboxy lic acid is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV in a manner similar to other fluoroquinolones. It also inhibits protein synthesis and bacterial cell division by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. This compound has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates and Clostridium perfringens isolates but not against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex isolates
