It can be used to reduce sulfides and thionyl chloride to the corresponding hydrochlorides or sulfoxides, respectively. This compound can also be used as a sulfur source for the preparation of organosulfur compounds. The mechanism by which 5CPCA reduces sulfides and thionyl chloride is not yet fully understood.
