Product Information
Methyl 3-(benzyloxy)benzoate is an antagonist that binds to the AT1 receptor subtype. It has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of the binding of angiotensin II (Ang II) to its receptors in rat brain tissue, with an IC50 value of 0.15 μM. This agent also has a modular structure, which makes it possible for it to be used as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Methyl 3-(benzyloxy)benzoate is synthesized by first reacting benzaldehyde with methyl 3-hydroxybenzoate in the presence of sodium hydroxide and then removing the hydroxy group from the resulting product by treatment with thionyl chloride. The compound may also be prepared by reacting benzaldehyde with phenol in the presence of potassium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, followed by hydrolysis of the ester groups.
