Product Information
3-Ethylfuran-2-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that contains a nitrogen atom and a carbonyl group. It is classified as an amide and has a ring-opening reaction with nucleophiles. The labile proton on the nitrogen atom can be removed to produce 3-ethylfuran, which is also classified as an amide. There are two possible ways to make this compound: by reacting acetaldehyde with ammonia, or reacting ethyl bromoacetate with hydroxyl amine.
The reaction of 3-ethylfuran-2-carboxylic acid with sodium methoxide at temperatures of -90 °C produces 3-ethylfuran. This reaction also releases heat, which can be used to determine the reaction temperature.
