Hypertrehalosemic hormone (HT) is a furanic, crystalline polymorph that is found in the prothoracic gland of some animals. HT is a polypeptide hormone that exhibits antiviral activity and stimulates DNA replication. The HT molecule has been shown to activate the immune system by binding to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) envelope protein gp120, which induces apoptosis. This hormone also inhibits carbohydrate metabolism in tissues, which may be due to its ability to inhibit glucose uptake into cells and promote glycogenolysis in liver cells. HT has been shown to induce hyperactivity in rats and mice.
