The compound can be synthesized by cyclodehydration of benzaldehyde followed by polycondensation. This compound may be hydrolyzed to benzoic acid, which is an important precursor for the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and perfumes. 2-(Benzyloxy)-4-fluoro-1-nitrobenzene can also react with potassium or hydrochloric acid to form potassium benzoate or benzoic acid chloride respectively. 2-(Benzyloxy)-4-fluoro-1-nitrobenzene has been used as a reagent in the synthesis of various other compounds, including benzocaine, phenacetin, and phenazopyridine.
