Product Information

Name:
Methyl 3-hydroxyundecanoate
Description:

Methyl 3-hydroxyundecanoate is a monomer with a chemical formula of CH(OH)(CH)CO. It has a molecular weight of 154.17 and the empirical formula C8H14O3. Methyl 3-hydroxyundecanoate is an isomeric mixture that can be produced by hydrolysis of methyl 3-oxohexanoate, a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme lipase. The strain Pseudomonas putida produces this product during fermentation when it is grown on glucose as a carbon source. This compound may also be found in nature as it has been isolated from the cell mass of an unidentified strain of bacteria. This compound is biosynthesized from two molecules of acetyl-CoA and three molecules of malonyl-CoA, which are intermediates in the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway.
