Description:
1,4-Diethyl 2-bromobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (1,4-DEBB) is a polyester that has been shown to emit light in the presence of an appropriate catalyst. This compound is synthesized by reacting 1,4-diethylbenzene with 1,2-dibromoethane in the presence of palladium and copper catalysts, forming a cross-coupling reaction. The luminescence properties of this compound are dependent on the temperature and the concentration of solvents. The emission spectrum is broad and can be shifted by varying solvent concentrations. The emission intensity increases with increasing temperature and decreases with increasing concentrations of nonaromatic hydrocarbons.
