Methyl 6-chloro-4-(dimethylamino)nicotinate (MCN) is a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth that belongs to the class of natural compounds. MCN inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the template strand of DNA and inhibiting the enzymatic activity of DNA polymerase. MCN has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It has also been shown to inhibit locomotor activity in mice and has been used as a model for studying cardiac effects.
