- 6-Thien-2-Ylnicotinic Acid
6-Thien-2-ylnicotinic acid is a hydrogen bond acceptor that binds to the active site of carbonic anhydrase. It has been shown to inhibit this enzyme and reduce the activity of anhydrase in a size-exclusion chromatography experiment. 6-Thien-2-ylnicotinic acid also has properties as a pharmacological ligand, which can be used for cancer treatment. This drug is also used to treat dyslipidemia by being an acceptor for the cholesterol molecule and binding it to form lipoproteins. 6-Thien-2-ylnicotinic acid is structurally similar to pyridine, but with two hydroxyl groups instead of one. The two hydroxyl groups allow 6-thien-2-ylnicotinic acid to act as a hydrogen bond donor, which allows it to bind more strongly than pyridine.
