DBD-CO-Hz is a methyl ester that can be used as an HPLC label for the determination of fatty acids. DBD-CO-Hz reacts with fatty acids to produce fluorescent compounds. This reaction is quantified by measuring the intensity of the fluorescence. The reaction solution includes chloroformate and trifluoromethane, which react together to form a chloride ion and CO2. The chloride ion reacts with amide in reversed-phase HPLC to form a chiral compound that can be detected by fluorescence.
