Product Information

Name:
4-Bromo-1-(bromomethyl)-2-(methylsulfonyl)-benzene
Description:

Trifluoroacetic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the class of trifluoromethanesulfonic acids. It is a colorless liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. Trifluoroacetic acid is used as a solvent in organic synthesis and as a reagent for introducing trifluoromethyl groups. It is also used to prepare pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pigments.

Trifluoroacetic acid can be prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of chloroacetic acid or by hydrolysis of trichloroacetyl chloride with sodium hydroxide. A solution of trifluoroacetic acid in water is acidic (pH 3) and reacts with alkalis to form salts such as sodium trifluoroacetate, which are insoluble in water.
