Daturametelin I is an antibacterial agent that is a mixture of saponins and tannins. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective effects against liver damage caused by acetaminophen, carbon tetrachloride, and chloroform. The chemical structure of Daturametelin I consists of six sugar molecules, three of which are glucose, and three of which are glucuronic acid. Daturametelin I also has a variety of pharmacological mechanisms including antioxidant effects, induction of apoptosis in cancer cells, inhibition of angiogenesis in tumors, and inhibition of tumor growth. These properties may be due to the flavonoids present in the molecule.
