2-Methoxy-4-(2-nitrovinyl)phenyl] b-D-glucopyranoside is an irreversible inhibitor of β-glucosidase that binds to the enzyme's active site. It prevents the hydrolysis of β-glycosides and slows down the rate of glucose metabolism in mammals, which can lead to hypoglycemia. 2-Methoxy-4-(2-nitrovinyl)phenyl] b-D-glucopyranoside inhibits the catalytic mechanism by binding to a nucleophile and preventing bond cleavage by a transition state. The inhibition reaction is reversible with a second substrate molecule. This mechanism is also affected by isotope effects, as well as residue and kinetic constants, which are important for understanding the catalytic mechanism.
