Product Information
Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-blocker that has been shown to be effective in treating congestive heart failure. It is currently used as an adjunct therapy to other drugs such as flecainide and adrenergic receptor antagonists. Carvedilol is not active against ventricular dysfunction, but it can be used for the treatment of ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. It binds to adrenergic receptors in the heart, which inhibits the binding of catecholamines (such as epinephrine) to these receptors, thereby reducing sympathetic activity on the heart. Carvedilol can also be analyzed by chromatographic techniques or spectrometric techniques such as mass spectrometry. The enantiomeric purity can be determined by analyzing the product using a chiral column or by a spectrometric technique such as mass spectrometry.
