Description

Phenolphthalein b-D-glucuronide sodium salt monohydrate (PPGM) is a natural compound that is used in toxicity studies. It has been shown to induce atherosclerotic lesions in rabbits and rats, which is thought to be due to its ability to bind to fatty acids. PPGM also binds estradiol benzoate with high affinity and may be able to compete for the receptor sites of other estrogens. PPGM is soluble in water, as well as various organic solvents such as acetone, ethanol, and acetonitrile. This compound has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties similar to those of phenolphthalein b-D-gluconate, with high values for adenine nucleotide (ADP) concentrations in the blood. PPGM has been shown to cause the release of ADP from human serum albumin by means of an energy-dependent mechanism.
