4-Trifluoromethylumbelliferyl b-D-glucopyranoside is a fluorogenic substrate that can be used for the detection of esterases. It has been shown to be a substrate for esterases in the culture media of many different cells, including animal and plant cells. 4-Trifluoromethylumbelliferyl b-D-glucopyranoside can also be used as a conjugate for antibodies or other ligands, and has been used as an enzyme substrate in food testing, diagnostics, environmental testing, and staining. This compound has been shown to react with oxygen to produce chemiluminescence and bioluminescence.
