5-Amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid (ATIP) is a diagnostic agent that can be used to detect the presence of nitrogen in wastewater. It reacts with chlorine to form a red color. The reaction solution is heated for 10 minutes at 60°C to produce a dark red precipitate that is insoluble in water. ATIP has been shown to react with the chlorinating agent hypochlorite and produce an orange precipitate with a pH of 3.5. This product has also been shown to be clinically relevant for the diagnosis of protein data and model system studies.
ATIP binds to proteins via hydrogen bonds, which are formed between amino groups on the protein and hydroxyl groups on ATIP. The fluorine atom acts as an electron donor or acceptor in these bonds, which helps determine the strength of these hydrogen bonds.br>br>
