Anthranilic acid is an aromatic compound that is used as a precursor for the synthesis of various drugs, including tetracycline and sephadex g-100. It has been shown to be an epigenetic modulator that can alter gene expression and reverse tetracycline resistance in bacteria. The mechanism of action is not well understood, but it has been shown to bind to the metal chelate site on the enzyme polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and inhibit the activity of DNA polymerases. Anthranilic acid also binds to enzymes involved in inflammation and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) synthesis, such as synthase and cyclooxygenase.
