Alanine anhydride is a diagnostic agent that is used to detect microbial infections. It has been shown to be effective in detecting the concentration of albumin in blood plasma, which can be used as a marker for liver disease or as a measure of inflammation. Alanine anhydride can also be used to detect cancer cells and has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis. It reacts with the carbonyl group of proteins and forms a Schiff base, which is detected by eosinophil peroxidase. This reaction results in the formation of a pink color that indicates the presence of cancer cells.
