4-Acetotoluidine is a chemical compound that has a molecular formula of CHNO. It has a dichroic, blue color and can be seen in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. 4-Acetotoluidine can be prepared by reacting phenylacetic acid with hydrochloric acid and ammonia in the presence of sodium hydroxide. 4-Acetotoluidine is used as a diagnostic agent for carbohydrates. It reacts with amides to form an amide carbonyl group, which can be detected using infrared spectroscopy.
