2-Aminodiphenylsulfide is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, which is involved in the synthesis of uracil and cytosine. It has been used as a chemical probe for studying chemical reactions involving palladium complexes. 2-Aminodiphenylsulfide reacts with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen sulfide and an amine salt. The reaction is catalyzed by piperazine, which is also produced as a side product. This reaction can be carried out in the presence of sodium hydroxide solution or hydroxide solution, which are used to neutralize the hydrochloric acid formed during the reaction. 2-Aminodiphenylsulfide can react with carbonyl groups, such as aldehyde groups or ketone groups, and form adducts that have fluorescence properties. These adducts are useful in fluorescent techniques for detecting chemical reactions involving palladium
