Product Information
- 6-amino-5-nitrosopyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione
- 6-amino-5-nitropyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione
6-Amino-5-nitrouracil is a synthetic chemical that inhibits the growth of the hepatitis virus. It has been shown to inhibit glutamic dehydrogenase in human liver cells and overlaps with nitro groups on purines in the viral genome. 6-Amino-5-nitrouracil also interacts with uridine phosphorylase, which is an enzyme that converts uridine into cytosine, and this inhibition prevents DNA synthesis. The nitro group on 6-amino-5-nitrouracil can be oxidized by halogens to form a reactive oxygen species, which destroys the viral ribonucleic acid (RNA).
