Description

4-Aminophenol is an amine that has been used in analytical chemistry as a standard for the determination of the redox potential. It reacts with p-nitrophenyl phosphate to form a pink product, and the intensity of this color can be correlated with the oxidation potential. 4-Aminophenol is also used in bacteria toxicity studies. This compound inhibits bacterial growth by disrupting the redox cycle, which can lead to ATP depletion and cell death. 4-Aminophenol does not have any acute toxicities, but it does inhibit glucuronidation and cause an increase in serum amines levels.
