5-Amino-6-methylbenzimidazolone is a synthetic chemical that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 5-Amino-6-methylbenzimidazolone is hydrolyzed by hydrochloric acid or organic solvents to produce 4,5-diamino-2,6-dimethylphenazine and 2,4,5-trichlorophenol. The degradation process produces chloride ions and hydrogen gas, which are then mineralized into carbon dioxide and water.
